Practical strategies to look after your mental health

Keep a routine. Regular times for waking, meals, work and sleep give your day structure and help your mood.

Stay connected. Schedule regular calls or video chats with friends and family, and be honest with them about how you are going.

Limit news and social media. Staying informed is important, but constant updates can increase anxiety. Choose set times to check the news.

Move your body. Exercise, even a short walk outside, is one of the most effective ways to reduce stress and lift your mood.

Be kind to yourself. It is normal to feel worried, flat or frustrated during uncertain times. Notice those feelings without judging yourself.

Reach out for support. If anxiety, loneliness or low mood are affecting your daily life, talking to a psychologist can help. Sessions are available by telehealth and telephone as well as in Elsternwick. If you need urgent support, call Lifeline on 13 11 14.
