Hypnotherapy For Alcohol

Hypnotherapy For Alcohol

‘Alcohol abuse’ and ‘alcoholism’ tend to be terms that are thrown about somewhat freely at times. However, if you’re unhappy with the amount that you drink, or if you experience persistent social, financial, or emotional harm due to drinking, you might be said to have an alcohol abuse disorder. Hypnotherapy is emerging as a treatment option that can prove effective for those struggling with alcohol addiction or who are unhappy with their relationship to alcohol. Hypnotherapy and hypnosis can help individuals gain control over their drinking habits and reduce the risk of relapse.

How does it work?

Hypnotherapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses hypnosis to alter a person’s state of consciousness. During hypnosis, the patient is guided into a relaxed state in which they are more open to suggestion. In this state, the therapist can work with the patient to identify underlying issues related to their alcohol use disorder (AUD). This may include exploring past experiences or identifying triggers that lead to drinking.

The goal of hypnotherapy for alcohol abuse is to help the patient develop healthier coping strategies for dealing with cravings and stressors. During and at the conclusion of the session, the therapist may also suggest positive affirmations or visualisations designed to reinforce positive behaviour changes. For example, they may suggest visualising themselves having control over their drinking habits or being able to resist cravings when they arise.

Does it really work?

While you won’t suddenly wake up without the urge to drink, some studies have found hypnotherapy has been found to be effective in reducing alcohol consumption and promoting abstinence from alcohol use. Studies have shown that it can reduce cravings, improve motivation, increase self-efficacy, and reduce anxiety associated with AUDs. Additionally, it has been found to be helpful in reducing withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, irritability, restlessness, and depression associated with AUDs.

It’s important to note that hypnotherapy should not be used as a replacement for traditional treatments such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). Instead, it can be used in conjunction with these treatments in order to maximise its effectiveness in treating AUDs.
